Diabetes Education
At Wheatbelt Health Network our doctors can help diagnose and treat individuals with Diabetes. Diabetes is the fastest growing chronic condition in Australia with over 280 Australians developing diabetes every day – that is one person every five minutes.
Diabetes (diabetes mellitus) is a condition marked by high levels of glucose in the blood and is caused by the body’s inability to produce insulin or absorb glucose effectively. Glucose is one of the main sources of energy for our bodies.
There are three types of diabetes:
- Type 1 diabetes
- Type 2 diabetes
- Gestational diabetes
Whilst there is currently no cure for diabetes, patients can live an enjoyable life by learning how to manage it effectively.
