Meet Michael

We’re one week away from our metal sculpture workshop, so let me introduce you to the very talented Michael Sofoulis!

DA: What got you into metal sculpture?

Since childhood I’ve been into scrap yards. The very first sculpture I ever made at the age of twenty-five is in the gallery and I will never sell it. I was a mechanical fitter apprentice at the Midland Railway Workshops, as was my Dad before me. I continued working in metal fabrication until I met my wife Kate, we moved to Beverley about 10 years ago and started the East End Gallery and began creating art full time.

DA: What’s the biggest change you see in yourself from 3 years ago to today?

From renovation to winter escapes for finding metal objects which revitalises me and stretches my imagination for new works.

DA: What do you hope to achieve in the workshop?

I hope to encourage others in creativity and boost my own self confidence.

DA: When you’re feeling discouraged, what gets you back on track?

Listening to responses from guests in the gallery and getting compliments on my artwork really helps get me excited again.

DA: What is your most listened to song right now?

The album Louisiana Gumbo
