Diabetes Education
A Diabetes Educator is available through the Wheatbelt GP Network to provide individual and group consultations. Regional Primary Health Service funding, through the Department of Health and Ageing, provides for this service.
The towns which are currently being covered through the network are; York, Beverley, Quairading, Goomalling, Merredin, Dalwallinu and Wyalkatchem.
Diabetes Educators assist people to manage their diabetes and may discuss issues such as; monitoring blood glucose levels, medications, insulin, exercise, foot care, what to do when you are sick, the effects of food on diabetes and how to prevent complications from diabetes. Anyone with type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, Gestational diabetes, or pre-diabetes (Impaired Fasting Glucose, Impaired Glucose Tolerance) can benefit from seeing a Diabetes Educator. Consultations are free and people can be referred to the Diabetes Educator through their GP.
