Aged Care Access Initiative
Funding for the Aged Care Panel program was finalised as at 30 June 2008. This program had effectively brought together health care professionals with an interested in Aged Care. Regulary meetings were held to work towards finding solutions for Aged Care issues in the region.
In place of the Aged Care Panels program, the WA GP Network manages the Aged Care Access Initiative. This new Initiative, which commenced in late 2008, has an emphasis on service delivery.
Funding received by the Wheatbelt GP Network through this Initiative, provides a Podiatrist to the Residential Aged Care Facilities in Quairading, Beverley and Moora. This facilities were identified as gap areas for Podiatry services and by consulting with WA Country Health Services, it was determined that a Podiatrist was a high priority Allied Health Service.
For reporting purposes, the Health Service Managers (HSM) at each of the above Residential Aged Care Facilities were informally surveyed. Each HSM rated the service very highly and expressed a desire for the service to continue. As such, the Network is pleased to note that funding for 2009/2010 will continue to fund a Podiatrist for the Beverley, Quairading and Moora Residential Aged Care Facilities.
The Rural Palliative Care Project that commenced in late 2008, has successfully built on the Central Aged Care Panel to become the Expert Reference Group. This Group has been expanded to include professionals with an interest in palliative care. The Expert Reference Group meet quarterly and for more information, you may contact Gabi Ellis on (08) 9621 1530 (08) 9621 1530 or email gabie@wheatbelt.com.au.
