Wheatbelt General Practice

The Network is working hard to create real, tangible solutions to a shortage of primary health services in the Wheatbelt.

In October 2009, the Network worked closely with WA Country Health Service to open its own practice and secure the services of a GP.  The result has been a General Practice which operates independantly but being located within the Northam Hospital.  The benefit of a GP on the hospital premises from Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, to attend to emergencies is a significant achievement.

The second practice at Wyalkatchem meant the formation of an agreement between the Network and the Shire of Wyalkatchem - a first for the Wheatbelt.  The Network looks forward to using its expertise in the field of General Practice to create a sustainable business model and an exceptionally high quality service for the communities of Wyalkatchem, Koorda and Dowerin.

Wheatbelt General Practice - Aboriginal Health will be opening early May 2010.  With a significant government investment (Council of Australian Governments), the Network will open the practice in the new Wheatbelt Aboriginal Health building in Northam.  Services will be available throughout the Wheatbelt.  More information will come available in the near future.
