Domestic Violence Repsonse Training
|
Lifeline are conducting Domestice Violence Response Training in Perth and have proposed the following dates Wednesday 19th & Thursday 20th May
The training will provide participants with:
- details on the extent and impact of family and domestic violence and why it is so difficult for victims to seek help;
- information, skills and support so that they will feel more comfortable and confident recognising domestic and family violence, assessing risk, safety planning, making appropriate referrals, and accessing available resources in their communities;
- information that can be used to raise community awareness about the pathways to accessing support;
- strategies for ensuring their own safety; and
- links to peers within their region, to reduce any isolation they may experience in their work.

There will be travel payments for those PN's and AHW's from PIP eligible practices to travel to the venue.

Stroke Clinical Leadership Program for Rural Clinicians |
WA Country Health Service, Edith Cowan University, Royal Perth Hospital Neurology, The Rural Clinical School of Western Australia and WA Stroke Focus Group are conducting this training program.
This Clinical Leadership Program provides professional support and leadership opportunities for rural clinicians (including students) with an interest or focus in stroke care including: - Ambulance Officers - Emergency Department staff - General Practitioners - Medical Staff - Medical Students - Nurses - Allied Health - Therapy Assistants - Community Nurses
Modules are held on various dates from 25 February to 17 June 2010.
Participation is by Telehealth Videoconference.
This is a free program.

Practice Nurse Orientation |
This ‘new’ 2 day entry level program is targeted at Nurses in their first 12 months of working in General Practice. Practice nursing offers the opportunity for nurses to utilise a range of skills and competencies and to be part of the primary health care team in General Practice.
Practice nursing is a different and unfamiliar environment to other areas of nursing practice and the Orientation program will provide nurses new to General Practice with the knowledge and baseline skills they need to deliver high quality and safe health care services.
This national program has been developed through the Australian General Practice Network with funding from the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.

Graduate Certificate in Nursing (General Practice)
|
The Graduate Certificate in Nursing (General Practice) is a collaborative joint venture of the University of the Sunshine Coast and the Australian General Practice Network (AGPN) , who work closely with the University in facilitating its delivery. The Graduate Certificate is designed specifically for practice nurses to develop knowledge and skills to assist them to practice competently within the challenging and constantly evolving general practice environment.
In the first phase of the program students complete three courses (36 units) that emphasise practice within the general practice environment via on-line distance education delivered by USC adjunct staff. The second phase, the elective course, is delivered via on-line distance education by the University of the Sunshine Coast.
Cost: This four course program is offered through AGPN at $650 per course, per semester for the first three courses. The elective course delivered through the University of the Sunshine Coast will cost approximately $1,600.

E-Learning Training Package to Support Medicare Item 10997
|
This training package is an education initiative funded by the Department of Health and Ageing to support practice nurses and Aboriginal Health Workers in the delivery of quality care; and to assist general practitioners (GPs) to ensure that practice nurses and registered Aboriginal Health Workers are appropriately qualified and trained to provide monitoring and support for patients with a chronic disease care plan.
AGPN, in partnership with the Royal College of Nursing Australia and Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education, are in the final stages of development of this package which consists of:
- one foundation module incorporating three units; a lifestyle counseling unit; a chronic disease self-management unit; and a unit focusing on care planning, cultural sensitivity awareness and information on accessing and utilising Medicare Item 10997;
- six disease-specific modules covering topic areas of asthma, arthritis, cancer, coronary heart disease, dementia and diabetes.
The package has been piloted by practice nurses in four states (Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales). The pilot for registered Aboriginal Health Workers took place in Darwin in January 2009.
A process analysis has been conducted with practice nurse pilot participants and an impact analysis is nearing completion.
The package is due to undergo final endorsement by the end of February 2009 in readiness for public release in March 2009. It will be accredited to the following standards:
- Competency Standards for Nurses in General Practice (ANF 2006)
- Competency Standards Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council
- National Quality Council
- Australian Quality Training Framework compliant
- Assigned Continuing Nurse Education points by RCNA and APNA
- Aboriginal Health Worker Registration Board NT
- Quality and Regulatory Unit of the Northern Territory Government Department of Employment, Education and Training
Cost
Free to eligible participants for initial roll-out period March 2009 - June 2009. A cost recovery charge will be associated with the training package beyond this point. This fee is yet to be determined.
